ALFONZETTI

Matti Alfonzetti comes from Stockholm, Sweden, and began his musical career as the bassist with Heavy Waters before taking over vocal duties in the same band. Since then, Alfonzetti has been a member of a few bands such as The Bam Bam Boys, Scott Gorham’s Western Front, Jagged Edge, Skintrade and The Poodles. He has also had a career as a solo artist and ‘Here Comes The Night’ is his third solo effort. Alongside Alfonzetti, who plays both bass and guitar as well as handling the vocals, Daniel Flores contributes drumming and keyboards as well as his mixing and producing skills. The album itself is a mixture of full-on, up tempo rockers and slower, more balladic tracks. Of the faster tracks, the best are the opener, ‘Losing You’, ‘I’ll Wait For You’ and ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Heart’ which all feature pounding basslines and drums, fierce guitars and gritty vocals. Alfonzetti shows his vocal versatility on the slower songs such as the title track, ‘Lay Your Love On Me’ and ‘Set Me Fee’ which is reminiscent of Whitesnake. All in all, although this is a fairly generic release, it is well produced and the performances of both Alfonzetti and Flores are first rate. Although there is nothing original here, this recording should find an appreciative audience amongst fans of heavy AOR.
