ANTIGAMA

With Vader drummer Pawel Jaroszewicz and bassist Michal Zawadski joining guitarist Sebastian Rokicki and vocalist Lukasz Myszkowski (back in the band following his absence from 2009’s ‘Warning’), Antigama’s well-honed sound is as viciously precise as ever it was. Following the opening sample of "Ignition; Full thrust", 'Stop The Chaos' bursts forth and Antigama's tech-grind battery of bruising beats, rabid riffs, chunky grinding chords, and tonsil-tearing vocals is unleashed in a frenzy of five savage attacks. Off-kilter riffs jar against dissonant blasts and complex time signature changes and intricate and challenging structures that are as abrasive as they are abrupt and balanced out by a host of twisted and dissonant math rock chord passages akin to The Dillinger Escape Plan and the like. The guitars are savage, the drums pummelling, and the vocals suitably snarling away in the bass end, and the production gives the EP that guttural grunt and primal feel that grindcore thrives upon and is clear enough for the tech aspect to be relished. While the John Carpenter/Vangelis-esque ambient closer 'The End' (picture Snake Plissken and Roy Baty at the control of a bank of synths in the fog) offers a respite from the destruction, 'Stop The Chaos' is a sadly-too-brief blast of quality tech-grind that, while we wait for the next full-length from Antigama, will more than do.
