ARCEYE

When I was handed Arceye's Album to review I was immediately taken by the professional look of the Artwork, CD and the presentation of the package as a whole. The sleeve is fantastic - understated but very effective. Clearly they mean business. A few minutes into the CD, this opinion is completely reinforced sonically. They must have invested some considerable time and effort to hone the songs and sound and it is effort well spent. The first and most important impression is good. The tracks are mixed and mastered well which allows the instruments and voice to do their job - all one can hope for in a CD. It is fairly obvious as the disc continues through the track list these guys have pulled the strings of their varied influences together. For fans of technical metal, this could quickly become an essential album - Arceye manage to blend prog and balls out thrash to engage the listener and never become bland, as is often so the wont of some progressive based music. There are some very good riffs and musical hooks here and the level of skills and control of the instruments on show is audible throughout. The unusual instrumental ‘Between Chaos’ is a particularly stand out track for me, personally. Managing to be both thrashy to hell, ‘twiddly-widdly’ and contemplative, and that's no mean feat. The whole 6 minutes 55 seconds are captivating - and that's not easy. In conclusion, the biggest compliment I can pay Arceye is that I would pay good money and travel to see these guys live, pay for their future CDs and pay for their t-shirts, proud to display my interest in this band. A level of success is happening with good support slots already executed. They are perfect for bigger festivals and would like to see them feature at events such as Wacken or indeed Bloodstock where they would reach the audience they so deserve.
