BEYOND INSANITY
www.beyond-insanity.net
France has certainly produced its fair share of extreme (and in terms of black metal) quite avant-garde bands. Beyond Insanity certainly fit into the extreme category, loosely wearing the Death Metal tag but also incorporating elements that may have ‘core’ after the name. Lyrically the band are obsessed with madness and if you look at their MySpace then the insanity of serial killer Ed Gein figures quite heavily. Musically the band members are obviously incredibly accomplished and are comfortable mixing their styles and making songs that flow seamlessly. There’s even a feel of Celtic Frost when singer Simon uses clean and mournful vocals over some sections. The production for a self released CD is absolutely top-notch which is a good thing as this allows the songs to sound organic but crushingly heavy. I can see these guys fitting on the bill with their fellow French institution of Death Metal, Gojira. But whereas Gojira (in this writer’s humble opinion) have an individuality and uniqueness to them Beyond Insanity have a sound that I know and feel I have heard quite a bit before. Saying this though, I don’t want it to detract from what is all in all a very impressive release and Beyond Insanity are certainly a band to watch for in the future.
