CLAUSTROPHOBIA
www.myspace.com/claustrofobia
Heavy and thrashy death metal from these Brazilians. In this day and age this sounds very basic and, to some degree, keeps bypassing me as I listen through to the album. I really want to like it but it fails to really grab me, as though I’ve heard it all too many times. They give a nod to fellow Brazilians, Sepultura, with a cover of ‘Beneath The Remains’ as closer for this, their fourth album, and first to be released by Candlelight. You can certainly see that Claustrofobia were influenced by the sound and aggression of Sepultura, both they have captured impeccably. Previously their albums were hard to get hold of in the UK, mainly on import from specialists. The Candlelight deal will certainly help them achieve more fame and access a wider audience. The production of the album overall favours the low end (as one would expect) and certainly batters its way around your head (but I still feel as though I want more). Maybe some more interesting interludes (like at the beginning of ‘Alarm’) would help for me, but if you like your death metal with a heavy thrashy edge and straight down the line metal songs then Claustrofobia’s ‘I See Red’ may be just for you.
