COFFIN BIRTH
www.coffinbirth.com
The opening to this album really reminds me of early King Diamond intros like ‘Abigail’ or ‘Fatal Portrait’ and knowing Coffin Birth are into their horror metal I’m certain this is no coincidence. They describe themselves as ‘Creepy Old School Blackened Thrash Metal’ which seems as good a moniker as any! This record could have been released in the eighties and would not have been out of place – BUT it probably wouldn’t have stood out from the crowd. Something that’s still as true today. That’s not to say this is a bad album by any shape or means. It is very good and is metal through and through but after a few listens I haven’t been drawn back to it overly and am currently listening to it for the review – again enjoying it for what it is but know that once this listen is over I may not listen to it for quite a while again. I love the rhythm guitar sound on the album which is nice and crunchy yet evoking memories of thrash days gone by. The drums could have been a bit more urgent which may have helped lift the album. Listening to Coffin Birth I feel they may have a great local following as they obviously have true metal flowing through their veins but album-wise it just doesn’t seem to have translated totally onto ‘The Miracle Of Death’.
