COLOURS OF ONE
www.myspace.com/coloursofone
Whilst it's arguable that the noughties were kind to Welsh music (with the soaring profiles of Lostprophets, Funeral for a Friend, Bullet for my Valentine et al), it's also fair to say that each band started life with good intentions but ultimately were lured by the dollar to create vacuous works that would earn them each well-deserved scorn. Colours of One also hail from St. David's green, green, land, and take their cues (according to their press release) from the likes of Kings of Leon, Paramore, Coheed and Cambria, and so on. In actuality, they are thankfully more than the sum of those parts (which shouldn't be hard). Surprisingly melodic and metallic by equal measure, their song writing prowess is already up there with their peers. I dare say that with the right marketing they could achieve great things. As it is, this debut mini-album is a very listenable affair. Jam-packed with tunes, and zero filler, the songs are skilfully crafted; not with radio in mind, but with narrative, atmosphere, and flow at the forefront. Dynamically, this is exciting stuff and I imagine they are captivating to watch on a stage. Ignore the initial dread of yet another Welsh metal band, and take notice of a very promising young band. Let's hope they ignore the inevitable pressures for radio hits to follow this release, and chart their own path to artistic and fiscal reward.
