DAVID MARK PEARCE
David Mark Pearce is a guitarist, sound engineer and producer from Cornwall. He has played in numerous bands, and in various musical styles, in the past including melodic rock band Union Jane and folk rock outfit Naked Feet. For this recording, Pearce has assembled a band that includes some well known names in rock circles such as Goran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen and John Norum) and John Payne (ex-Asia), who share vocal duties and Oliver Wakeman, son of Yes legend Rick, who guests on keyboards. The remainder of the line up consists of Pearce himself on guitars, Michael Wikman on drums, bassist C S Brown and, on the tracks where Wakeman doesn’t play, Lisa LaRue on keys. The album starts with a brief instrumental intro which serves to pave the way for ‘Alone I Cry’ which is heavy and melodic in equal measure and rather catchy. ‘Shelter Me From The Rain’ follows in a similar vein before the first of the John Payne tracks, ‘Tell Me Why’. Payne, in my opinion, has one of the best and most distinctive voices in rock and he doesn’t disappoint on this song, which could have been lifted from any of the Asia releases that he featured on. The instrumental ‘Everytime It Rains’ is next up, providing a showcase for Pearce to demonstrate his guitar prowess. The title track features an atmospheric intro before developing into another slice of melodically heavy rock. The remainder of the tracks are broadly in the same style with some top notch performances from various band members. In essence, I feel that this a very good release, with a number of strong tracks that could do well commercially if given enough exposure. Pearce has brought together a number of exceptional talents, the highlight of which is probably John Payne, and the quality of this release bodes well for his future career.
