EDEN'S CURSE

Eden's Curse are a multi-national band led by US vocalist Michael Eden and return with their second album, which they hope will gain them greater exposure and recognition. The 3 tracks that follow the opening instrumental ‘Reign of Terror’, namely ‘Masquerade Ball’, ‘Angels & Demons’ (featuring guest vocals from the awesome Pamela Moore, best known for her work on Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime 1 and 2) and ‘Just Like Judas’ are classic melodic hard rock songs with great hooks, memorable choruses and some sizzling lead guitar from Thorsten Koehne. In fact, Koehne impresses throughout. The album features too many poppier rock tracks for my liking with only ‘Sail On’ being particularly excellent. The others, although reasonable, don't quite manage to hold your attention. ‘Man Against The World’ is a great power ballad being both soft and beautiful. The final 4 tracks, particularly ‘Raven's Revenge’, which is a tour de force, re-discover the more rocking quality shown on the earlier tracks. Eden's Curse stick to a tried and tested formula, so if you're looking for originality you won't find it here. However, if you love top quality melodic hard rock then ‘The Second Coming’, although not perfect, has much to commend it and fans of this genre will find the album most enjoyable.
