ENTHRONED

As you start listening to 'Pentagrammaton', you are hit by those blast beats and harsh guitars pretty much from the off (after the obligatory intro which, to tell the truth, is pretty redundant). This is the Belgians’ ninth album and follows their well trodden path being quite traditional but with adding in some interesting elements. It’s all of a certain fast and furious pace but ‘Unconcious Minds’ does slow down to a more Bathory Viking era pace. Taken as a whole the album rattles along coherently and feels as though the flow of music is natural as it progresses through. This is at juxtaposition to some of its harsh guitar sounds, but ultimately leaves the listener with a satisfied calm wash-over effect. The production of the album is crisp and heavy with the aforementioned buzz-saw sound of the guitars cutting through and reminding that for all the top notch production values this is still a primal and raw black metal band. To those already aware of the band, you will know of the revolving door of musicians that have come and gone through Enthroned’s career. So is this their strongest line-up yet? Hard to say, but although 'Pentagrammaton' doesn’t break any new boundaries it is still a fine album played by a strong set of musicians.
