EPHYRA
www.ephyra.it
It looks like bands with death and Celtic influences are settling in Italy. The genre is spreading all over Europe and it doesn't seem like the feeling is getting lost by getting far from the roots. Ephyra are a good example of this. The Italian six-piece release their second album, ‘Along the Path’ on November 20th. A medieval twist is present, making this band take us to different places and eras with their sound. A sensorial exploration. The overall sound is solid, with a well-studied structure; the best part is, the structure is varied enough not to make it dull. Nothing is over the top which, nowadays, is something I personally welcome. The whole album is an adventure, delivered through powerful riffs, a powerful growl which many death metal bands certainly wish to have, and a female lead voice that complements the overall sound. We even have a taste of choirs that I can't avoid and compare to the brilliant Skálmöld. Did I mention ‘Cruel Day’? The fourth song on the album; the perfect example of this all. If you're like many others, in need to connect to some history and like bands such as Eluveitie, Skálmöld or even Arkona, give ‘Along the Path’ a try. I see a brilliant future for these guys!
