FAIR WARNING
www.fair-warning.de
Fair Warning are a German band who released their debut album way back in 1992. The band comprises vocalist Tommy Heart, formerly of the excellent V2, a band I had the privIledge of seeing back in 1989 when they supported Helloween, guitarists Helge Engelke and Andy Malecek and drummer C C Behrens. It would appear that Ule Ritgen plays bass on the album, and co-wrote 9 of the tracks, but is not a fully fledged band member. The individual members of the band are all veterans of the melodic 'hard' rock scene and, thus, the contents of this release are no great surprise. 'Fighting for your Love' begins proceedings and, if your a fan of Europe, Bon Jovi or the Scorpions, this track should really appeal to you, with its galloping beat, killer chorus and all round quality. In fact, if it was a Bon Jovi cut, it would probably make a sizeable impression on the charts. Sadly, we're not in 1985 anymore and the mainstream music scene is vastly different, much to the average rock fan's chagrin. 'Here Comes the Heartache' follows and is a similar track to the opener and again, is chock full of melody. The third track on the album, 'Hey Girl' is the first of several ballads and, while it may not be everybody's cup of tea, it's a good example of its type and is performed with energy and enthusiam. The rest of the tracks on this release are roughly split between up tempo rockers and slower, balladic style songs. The performances on each one are strong, with passionate vocals and some top rate guitar work. The pick of these tracks is probably 'As Snow White Found Out' which, despite the rather bizarre title, is a stomping, fast paced song with real musical virtues. In summary, this album will probably only appeal to those of you who are into the 'softer' side of heavy rock, something the Europeans seem to lap up, without any worries about whether it's fashionable or not. If you're not too concerned about your street cred, but do enjoy good quality, well produced and superbly realised rock music then you might just enjoy this release.
