FASHION BOMB
www.myspace.com/xfashionxbombx
‘Visions Of The Lifted Veil’ is the second album from the Chicago, Illinois modern industrial rock/metal band Fashion Bomb. The well produced album features elements of bands such as Stone Sour, Marilyn Manson, Staind and Korn but such is their sound it is very difficult to pinpoint any obvious influence, which is possibly ‘Visions Of The Lifted Veil's’ greatest strength. Fashion Bomb are very tight and musically impressive without ever being overly flashy. The album features a consistent barrage of riffs and highlights Adrian Valerie's effortless ability to switch from a melodic vocal to a more growly style. ‘The Meek’, which follows the short instrumental opener, is both heavy and melodramatic with Valerie's voice fluctuating between Jonathan Davis and Aaron Lewis. The stunning standout track ‘The Vow’ has a hint of Stone Sour about it and is perhaps the closest the band get to delivering a ballad on this album. Many of the songs such as ‘Veil Of Megiddo’, ‘The Stalker’ and ‘Technological Singularity’ are dominated by some crunching riffs with the tracks showing off some great changes in mood and tempo. Valerie's voice sounding very much like Dexter Holland on the verses on the latter track. ‘Crucify’ is a hook laden track, which interestingly reminds me in places of the vastly underrated New Model Army and strange as it may seem this works really well. The awesome main riff and vocals to the almost full on metal of ‘The World Will End With Us’ reminds me of Rob Zombie, making this one of the album's highlights. ‘A Dialogue Between The Spirit And Dust’ is in complete contrast to all the earlier songs being an atmospheric hypnotic instrumental piece with a classical sounding piano but this strange and compelling track provides the album with an excellent finish. On hearing this album it's possible that some people might prefer to label Fashion Bomb as nu metal but as this horrible term reminds me of rubbish such as Limp Bizkit I feel this would be derogatory and undeserving of a band showing such promise and intrigue. If constantly enjoyable riffs, diverse use of vocals over an industrial rock/metal backdrop sounds appealing to you then ‘Visions Of The Lifted Veil’ comes highly recommended.
