FOREVER WEDNESDAY
www.myspace.com/foreverwednesdayband
First track ‘Rebirth’ has a build-up of guitar which finally culminates in beautifully pitched soft vocals and faster beats to get your head nodding along, Forever Wednesday are a 5 piece Brit rock band with big hooks and even bigger songs. ‘Define Irony’ and the excellently named ‘Time To Get A Real Job Mr. Wolf’ showcase this band’s influences well, with style comparable with Taking Back Sunday on display. Things become really catchy when ‘Viruses’ comes along - it’s as if this full song was created with crowd participation in mind. It all slows down for ‘The Deserters’ with intense melodies, showing some brilliant guitar work from Jack Robinson and Josh Irvine. ‘Days of Youth’ reminds me of pop-punk from 2003 era; it’s technically a great track, however I’m not sold on Charlie Grout-Smith’s ‘harsher’ vocals, although the soft singing he does very well. A slow guitar intro leads into a mellowed ‘Vanish And Vacate’, which unfortunately has group vocals at the end and these are not pulled off well, I’m sorry to say. ‘Spitting Bullets’ and ‘Is Bad-Ass One or Two Words?’ have a really strong pop-punk element throughout the tracks, whilst ‘Let Go’ uses a lot of synth and simplistic guitar work to fully push the vocals. ‘Navigate’, the album finisher, is a lot more harsh, with heavier drumming and riffing throughout. It’s a decent effort, nothing spectacular.
