GENTLEMEN OF DISTORTED SOUND
www.myspace.com/gentlemenofdistortedsound
Gentlemen of Distorted Sound. 'GODS'. Well, you've got to have quite an ego to have that as your acronym haven't you? But then, as the singer is related to Ted Nugent, I suppose it is quite apt. GODS sit somewhere between good time rock and roll and stoner metal. It's a mix I can usually do well without, primarily due to my universal loathing of anything purporting to 'good times' and 'rock and roll'. It's all Poison's fault. Anyway, it's a blessing that GODS are in fact a little more late-nineties than they are mid-eighties. Does that equate to giving a shit in the early-tens (if that's how we're describing eras now)? I'm going to be generous today and say that I quite like GODS and that the 'Bone Idol EP' might actually be worth your attention. The songs sway nicely between anthemic fist-pumping and brooding 'everything is wrong with the world, but you baby' type of ballad-esque stadium weepers. Because of that, and perhaps helped by the Nugent name, I don't doubt that GODS will achieve a decent level of exposure, and probably end up at Download or something. As it is, they're playing a handful of dates around the country in August. Go and see them before the inevitable rise to stadiums; seeing this band in some backwater toilet is going to be good time rock and roll ambrosia. Oh, and let's ignore the ZZ Top cover.
