GLITTERTIND
www.glittertind.net
If this had come out during the late 80s or early 90s as part of the British folk rock scene it might have had more going for it. It reminds me of bands like Pressgang or the Whiskey Priests if they had wanted to be Skyclad or latterly like those German folkists In Extremo. All of the reference points in themselves are shining lights but however much I want to get into Glitterind, I just can’t get too excited. I think their use of traditional instruments and sounds would fit with bands like Capercaillie and Clannad perfectly and when added to metal the slightly chaotic playing is needed such as Waylander to really do it justice in this metal setting. It’s a case of there just isn’t the ‘hit’ you need from this in one way and if it’s atmosphere Glitterind are trying to achieve it just didn’t completely work for me either. Saying all this, this isn’t a really bad album. Individual performances on instruments are excellent and I’m sure there is a market out there for this – it’s just that for me I’ve too many reference points to go back to that are personally better bands from the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish folk rock scenes that have captured in essence what I believe Glitterind have attempted here.
