Following on from last year’s excellent EP, 'Something Worth Chasing', and in lieu of their full-length debut, I have had the pleasure this last week or so of listening to 'Age of Corruption'. Whilst not necessarily as diverse as their previous EP, there has been an incredible leap in both song writing/arranging and production. Gra's vocals are far more diverse and ferocious than before, and Vil's instrumental prowess is really starting to flourish. Eschewing the American influences a little now, they are creating a sound that is truly their own. The symphonic underpinnings are crafted with more thought this time round, and serve to highlight the songs strengths, rather than to juxtapose the heavy stylings of the tracks themselves. The packaging of the CD is a nice touch too, furthering the comic style of their MySpace personas into some undead courtroom. The undead presumably representing our elected principles in modern society. This theme is continued in the lyrics to the title track and 'Heaviosity'. No Spartans this time round though. Once more I can heartily recommend this EP from GraVil, and I expect great things from them on their debut album.
