GRAVIL

I had low hopes for this. An EP from a band based on the concept of 'Dethklok', which itself was based on a mish-mash of death and black metal acts. Thankfully, this EP actually kicks almighty arse. They describe themselves as having distinct Scandinavian influences, but it's much more American than that (despite the Scandinavian/British origins of the band). With no real sound-alike to focus on, we have some razor sharp riffing and dischords from 'Vil', and the clean/death vocals of 'Gra'. This is nothing new or particularly ingenious, but it is damn fun and electrifying to listen to. Favourite track for me is the title cut 'Something Worth Chasing'. As a debut, this is very promising; it will be interesting to watch the evolution of this band. Worth chasing? Definitely.
