HELLBOUND HEARTS
www.facebook.com/wearehellboundhearts
Hellbound Hearts are a new, Yorkshire based band formed in 2011 by former Terrorvision bassist Danny Lambert. Here he has taken on the role of vocalist and guitarist (and very good he is too) and is joined by the former 98 Pages rhythm section of Jase Brooks and Andy Black on bass and drums, who work well together. Four track EP ‘Outside’ is the result and it’s a rollicking listen of good time rock ‘n’ roll and punk. Hellbound Hearts (I really like that name), play in the same vein as bands such as The Wildhearts, Foo Fighters and Motorhead. They have also played with The Black Spiders, Terrorvision, The Treatment and Jettblack. Put all those together and you will have a good idea of what they are trying to achieve. This is no nonsense rock, played with fire, fun and passion. Opener ‘Outside is very catchy (although the chorus does remind me of another song, but the title is alluding me at present). ‘Mr Cynical’, is the more commercial, slower track, that probably works least well, but it does have a great bass line. ‘Sinking Ship’ brings the tempo right back up to party status and closer ‘Hold Steady’ is my favourite song here, being almost ‘Motorhead Lite’. Production is acceptable, although the drums could do with being more punchy and higher in the mix (especially for the type of music that is being played). Hellbound Hearts are not doing anything original; it’s rock ‘n’ roll after all! What they do though is good and this bodes well for a full length album. This is a short, to the point review for a short, to the point EP. This lot are well worth a listen.
