HUNGRY AND THE HUNTED
www.myspace.com/hungryandthehunted
Hungry and the Hunted clearly want to be American. That's fine, it didn't hurt The Rolling Stones (a noted influence), and is arguably a large market for this type of rock and roll shtick. The sound takes some getting used to (it's quite acerbic), but once you have it locked, it's actually pretty decent stuff. The production captures that garage feel perfectly, and there is a definite punk and rock and roll feel to the whole thing. It's a fun record, and deserves to be played in such a context. The only time it falters is when the song writing hits a stride akin to the schmaltz that Springstein was always so bad at. No matter, such detours are brief, and more than compensated for by the sheer energy and joy that the incendiary rock tunes pour forth. Now that The Hellacopters are gone, it seems that Hungry and the Hunted have appeared at just the right time. Good-time modern rock and roll has rarely sounded so alive as it does here.
