IDOLS ARE DEAD
www.idolsaredead.com
"Groovy and down-tuned". I guess that was the mandate for either 'Idols Are Dead' or their A&R guy/gal. And, they live up to it well. It's not my cup of tea, but I can see that they do this pretty well. In addition, it doesn't make me want to cut my own nuts off, so that's got to be a good thing. With a guitar tone that really hasn't moved on since the early nineties, and a sense of melody that only fans of metalcore or Germans will appreciate, they're unlikely to be bothering the charts any time soon. But, I'm still enjoying listening to it. Nothing is original, there are no layers to uncover, no clever arrangements; just fist-pumping gas-attendant rock (baby). Still, they remind me slightly of Meliah Rage. And, I think that's it. There lies beneath a little bit of that old-school third division thrash about it. And I love me some old-school third division thrash. So, in the absence of all those long forgotten bands that tried so hard and failed spectacularly, I can recapture a little bit of that past by occasionally playing this record. Not often mind; just when I want to be eighteen again.
