I'LL EAT YOUR FACE
Who’d’ve thunk that such a bunch of time-hopping, technically-testing, ear-bludgeoning, mind-mangling tracks of jarring intensity would be concealed behind such a compendium of mashed and mauled monikers. Like Fantomas, Ephel Duath, Intensus, Loincloth, and many more of that ill ilk, the duo known as I’ll Eat Your Face are incapable of sitting still. Like Mr Fantastic’s ‘lastic limbs, the once-contented coupling of The BOY’s guitar and Barrytron’s drums is stretched, morphed and mutated in and out of a myriad of forms and thrust into many a cavity, many a chasm, and many a gulf between many an abyss. Rhythms abound, but only long enough to provide a hook that acquires your attention before bewildering it with another wholly different and more demanding pulsating pummelling. And so, just when you think it’s safe to dip your toe in the sun-warmed waters of a reliable rhythm, a mellifluous melody, or a harmless harmony, it’s gone. Where the combination of such a technically capable duo could easily provide for endless bursts of mutual masturbation and mechanical ejaculate, I’ll Eat Your Face’s onanistic tendencies are restrained, contained, and controlled, revealing themselves in the nine sado-masochistic manifestations found here. Tenderisers at the ready, prepare to surrender that five-holed façade of yours for a damned good thrashing.
