K-LACURA
www.k-lacura.co.uk
K-Lacura come from Didcot in Oxfordshire. They consist of school friends Stephen Stone and Mark Lambourne, who make up the rhythm section, guitarists Neil Raynor and Philip Greenaway and lead vocalist Iann Gillian (spelt slightly differently, I know, but any relation?). The band have built a reputation as a live act and have supported Glamour Of The Kill, Chthonic and Ghosts Of A Thousand thus far in their career.

Their debut album is a collection of fiercely frenetic and powerful tracks and there is an unrelenting pace and energy contained within the 10 songs on offer. For me, the standout cuts are the title track which features some well executed staccato riffing, ‘Severed and Silenced’ which lulls the listener with a relatively gentle intro before spewing forth a behemoth-like riff and equally monstrous vocals, wrapped in a furious and angry sound, ‘Fold’ with a slower, more considered feel and a more melodic approach and the last track on this release, ‘S.H.I.A.B’ which combines melody with huge riffs and an excellent, almost Maiden-esque guitar solo.

All in all, this is a promising effort from the band. The press release which accompanied the album likens K-Lacura to Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage and August Burns Red. I can’t really comment as I’m not familiar with the work of these bands. However, if you take this record at face value, I feel there is enough here to impress your average metal fan. As such, why not dip your toes into the waters of K-Lacura and see for yourself!
