LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE
www.lacrimas.com
Lacrimas Profundere are a band that I’ve heard of for quite a while now but not listened to too much before. They have quite the reputation within gothic metal circles for quality releases. This the latest release from a band who have prolifically released albums since 1995 and shows a band who are confident with their place in the world. The sound is firmly routed in the goth sounds of bands like The Sisters Of Mercy mixed with the more rock and metal sound of say Deathstars, The 69 Eyes and HIM. The songs are strong and well produced, allowing for that ‘big’ sound to swamp the speakers in a velvety darkness. My only gripe with ‘The Grandiose Nowhere’, though, is whether there is enough uniqueness to set it apart in a genre that has some superb bands that have gone before. I just feel like I have heard it all before (even if the songs are executed with precision and panache). I can certainly see fans of HIM and The 69 Eyes enjoying this German band’s ninth album and the second to feature vocalist Rob Vitacca but, for me, I would just have liked to see more uniqueness from Lacrimas Profundere with their overall sound. I can imagine, though, if you like this sort of sounding band and are always looking for more then you’ll love ‘The Grandiose Nowhere’.
