LOST IN VEGAS
www.lostinvegas.co.uk
Lost in Vegas are a four piece from Tamworth in the West Midlands, home to the once mighty Wolfsbane. Although they have only been gigging for about two years, they have already supported the likes of Magnum, InMe, The Answer and Paradise Lost. As far as can be ascertained, this six track EP is the band’s first release. A cursory look at the cover of ‘State of Mind’ would probably lead you to believe that the music contained within would be of the ‘sleaze rock’ variety, in the mould of GnR or Aerosmith. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. The first track, ‘Wash Away’, erupts from the speakers with an immense wave of riffage. Comparisons can legitimately be made to the likes of InME and Funeral for a Friend. ‘Nothing’ follows in a similar vein and features some thumping bass lines. ‘Looking Back’, the third track, contains more ferocious riffage, while ‘Breathe’ has an atmospheric feel with an intro similar to Sabbath’s ‘NIB’. ‘Chasing The Dragon’ (a nod to fellow West Midlanders Magnum perhaps?) slows the pace a little, with a gentle intro and a slightly balladic approach, although it does build nicely to a heavy end section. ‘The World is Ending’ wraps proceedings up with yet more, leviathan like, riffing. I’m really impressed with this debut offering from Lost In Vegas. This really is a very professional effort; the musicianship is first class and the production is superb, giving the songs real weight and bite. I’m not sure if their lives shows are as good as their recorded output but I’d love to find out!
