LULEY
www.aorheaven.com
Luley is the eponymous band fronted by Klaus Luley, who handles lead vocals, guitar and keyboards on this release. The rhythm section comprises Chris Elbers on drums and bassist Matthias Rethmann. Luley was a member of Tokyo, a relatively successful German melodic rock band in the 80s, before joining Craaft, another reasonably successful group who supported Queen , Marillion and Gary Moore amongst others. He has also had a successful songwriting career, writing songs for acts such as Meatloaf and Jennifer Rush.

This release, it has to be said, is a tad disappointing, not helped at all by a somewhat muddy sounding production. It sounds like Luley is going through the motions on the majority of the tracks on this release. When he does lift his game, on tracks such as ‘Slippin Away’, which is very catchy, ‘Don’t Wanna See Your Face’ and ‘Still Got A Long Way To Go’, the result is AOR of good quality but these tracks are diamonds in the rough. It is perhaps telling that the best cut on this release is ‘Tokyo’ which is a reworked version of a hit Luley had in the 80s. If Luley wants to regain the heights that he once scaled, he needs to produce music of better quality than is evident on this offering.
