MASTER MUSICIANS OF BUKKAKE
www.mmobmusic.com
Experimental nutjobs Master Musicians of Bukkake have delivered unto us more of the eccentric oddities for which they are renowned. Multi-layered, texturally opulent, ornate and bearing all the lunatic grandeur of a Barrett-meets-Hendrix-meets-Zappa psychedelic jam riding the Hale Bopp comet, the journey of this album is that of a thousand camels over a thousand deserts over a thousand years in search of some elevated form of being. Sun-drenched by day, moon-gazing by night, and straddling the plains between sanity, psychosis, serenity and the quixotic, the musical ceremonies of these dreamers are as seductive as they are startling.

Like Pink Floyd’s ‘Welcome to The Machine’, the instrumental ‘White Mountain Return’ has that same pulse-drive and open chord strums at its foundations, the track spiralling ever deeper into the mystical horizons. That mysticism is expanded and subtly intensified in ‘??-??µ?? – Gnomi’ with the addition of vocals which, mantra-like, paint the soundscape with a numinous hue, the multi-layered miasma a seductive pseudo-spiritual swamp of chants, chimes and percussive refrains that flows into ‘Arche’. The planets collide and a glimpse of the gateway to heaven is but a shadow caressing the star-scattered veil that gently prohibits us from gaining egress. Trapped, the subtly ebullient ‘Cave of Light – The Prima Materia’ is a reassurance, a tranquil respite from the dark undercurrents of the ritualistic resonance that permeate the celestial air. The dark majesty of ‘You Are A Dream Like Your Dreamer - The Dark Peace’ is ominous, the placid horror of the booming organ strewn with electronic configurations accompanies us on this most arduous part of our charge until, our journey almost complete, we celebrate with ‘Circular Ruins’ and we are lifted to our spiritual home. Finally, we are one. Or something like that…
