MIND MUSEUM
www.mindmuseum.co.uk
Normally when you think of music that exudes something audibly different each time you listen to it, you might think of multi-layered technical prog or perhaps complexly programmed electronic music. In the case of new three-piece Bristonian band Mind Museum, they have managed to capture this appealing aspect in a surprisingly simple manner. Whilst keeping strictly to a driven and upbeat radio-friendly style of alternative rock, the Rat Race EP effectively combines tightly played, and relatively simple catchy riffs and rhythms with interminglings of more complex drum rhythms and succinct flourishes of guitar licks. So whilst obvious comparisons might be drawn to the likes of 30 Seconds to Mars and Biffy Clyro and other ‘pop-alt-rock’ bands (in terms of the radio-friendly, upbeat style aspects), Mind Museum have the added attraction of more apparent retro influences, such as inklings of a Geddy Lee tone to certain vocals, and Stewart Copeland-styled drumming in parts. A short, catchy, well-composed and executed example of modern alternative rock. Certainly one to watch out for.
