MINISTRY
www.ministrymusic.org
With a career spanning three decades, it's curious to note that this 'final'(?) offering from Ministry avoids everything except their last three albums. It's fair to say that Ministry were only ever at their prime when baiting a Republican Administration (something Al admits himself), so it's no surprise. However, to avoid material from 'Psalm 69', 'The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste', and, to some degree, 'The Land of Rape and Honey', is astounding. Having said that, the material played live here before an audience on their last ever tour ever, is strong enough to make such concerns redundant (there are countless official and bootleg CDs containing older material after all). A disc error seems to have omitted 'The Last Sucker' from my review copy, which is a shame. Still, the 12 tracks left are full of driving antagonism and fury, the likes of which most industrial metal bands can only try and replicate. 'Waiting' in particular is a crushing piece of staccato-punk. If you love Ministry, there is no reason to avoid buying this. If you are not a fan, it's a bit late to come to the party now, and this may not be a great starting point anyway. As it is, this may be the last we hear of this wonderful band. And what a send off (until the DVD arrives of course). Adios Mr Jourgensen - come back soon.
