MOB RULES
www.mobrules.de
Another seven tracks of powerful and melodic metal from this Teutonic metal machine. This, their sixth album, reminds me very much of fellow Germans Blind Guardian (albeit slightly less histrionic). The production is huge - something needed to retain the hugeness of Mob Rules’ songwriting which is impeccable from the heavy and progressive elements of ‘The Oswald File’ (an 18 minute epic with many diverse and interesting elements) to the almost Sabbath rifforama of the opening track ‘Children Of The Flames’. It is probably the progressive elements of this album that sets a new benchmark for the band and I’m sure many will agree this to certainly their best to date. With the use of spoken samples and well played cinematic ambience there is a huge film feel to ‘Radical Peace’, especially in the aforementioned ‘The Oswald File’. I’ve listened to this album quite a few times now and there is always more to discover, especially considering it grabs you right from the off. With this immediacy but a good depth to discover with subsequent listens you never know but this album may feature in some peoples best of 2009 albums.
