THE MODERN AGE SLAVERY
www.myspace.com/themodernageslavery
No, no, no, no, no. You do not cover 'Wolverine Blues'. It's futile and completely without need. The music industry equivalent of that fucking Marky-Mark version of ‘Planet of the Apes’. Anyway, that little rant aside, we have an otherwise very impressive metaltechnicaldeathhardcore-core-core album here from Italian extremists The Modern Age Slavery. After a ridiculous and unnecessary intro track (I do love them), we get into the album proper. And from the almost-off it's full of manic shouting, furiously complex guitar passages and drums that make your head sting; the pace is up and down like a cheap hooker’s thong. It's all been done before of course, and The Modern Age Slavery brings nothing amazingly new to the table. However, the dish they serve is as vitriolic and mosh-worthy as the greatest veterans the bloated genre can deliver. There isn't a single track that stands out, which isn't to say that the songs aren't worthy rather that the quality is equal across the board. Of course, just in case I forget, it's nice that I'm reminded every couple of minutes what I'm listening to thanks to some cock-jockeying voice over. It completely ruins the breakdowns and the overall mood of the song. Casual observers of the genre may find something of interest here, and perhaps even the most cynical of genre fascists will have to concede to the album’s strong points. However, a little individuality will go a long way to securing the band a sweet future. One I hope they achieve, because I do believe they have potential. For now, this is an above-average head-banger.
