NEVERLAND

‘Ophidia’ is the second album from this Greek/Turkish symphonic progressive power metal band released under the name of Dreamtone & Iris Mavraki's Neverland. The album is consistently strong, being catchy, melodic and, although possessing an epic feel, remains fairly accessible throughout. These qualities are immediately evident on the opener ‘This Voice Inside’ and, straightaway, it’s pleasing to hear Ognalap Canatan adopting an impressively powerful singing voice and not a growling style quite often associated with this form of music. ‘Silence The Wolves’, the title track, ‘Invisible War’ and ‘Ashes To Fall’ all tread a similar path to the opener. ‘Will Of God’ offers a nice contrast and is an excellent soft, heartfelt ballad in the vein of Blackmore's Night with Iris's vocals coming to the fore. ‘Into The Horizon’ is a symphonic power metal instrumental and provides a grand finale to the album. ‘Ophidia’ is well produced and excellently performed, and fans of any of the genres, which form a small part of the Neverland sound should find much to enjoy on this album.
