ONSLAUGHT
www.onslaughtfromhell.com
I was at Damnation 2008 when this was recorded but unfortunately missed Onslaught. Listening to this CD I really wish I’d seen them there now but with three stages continuously going it’s not easy to see everyone. As someone who has seen Onslaught through their various incarnations and the subsequent comeback they have again grown to become a force to be reckoned with. With tracks predominantly coming from second album ‘The Force’ and latest ‘Killing Peace’ we’re given a serious lesson in THRASH!!! For me though it’s the final song, ‘Power from Hell’, which will always be an anthem of sonic destruction. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of that song. As a live album it stands up very well – the production and performances of all the individuals is top notch. I can imagine the band is extremely proud of this release as live albums can be a bit of a hit and miss affair. This is certainly a hit! If there is one downside to this album it’s the fact that you don’t feel as though anything new is added to certain songs from the later era, but hearing ‘Power From Hell’ being given that amount of heaviness all is forgiven. Songs from ‘In Search of Sanity’ are also conspicuous by their absence. I wonder if it’s time they re-recorded the album with Sy Keeler and let us hear how it was supposed to the first time around?
