PAPA ROACH

Papa Roach return with their eighth studio album, ‘F.E.A.R.’. The band went to Las Vegas to team up with producers Kevin and Kane Churko (In This Moment; Five Finger Death Punch; HellYeah) to bring a very electronic, hard-hitting, fresh feeling album. 'Face Everything And Rise' kicks off the album with a dramatic foundation of keyboards and an electronic industrial sound, leading into heavy riffs and strong lyrics. If the electronic feel is not what you are used to hearing from the band, dont worry. Songs such as ‘Skeletons’, ‘Falling Apart’, ‘Love Me Till It Hurts’ and ‘Broken as Me’ would feel right at home on previous Papa Roach albums, and are solid, hard-rocking, catchy additions. And the intro of ‘Broken as Me’ resembles the melody from the 2009 hit ‘I Almost Told You That I Love You’. In 'Gravity', frontman Jacoby Shaddix takes on a rap style which returns to the original style from the band’s sophomore, triple platinum album ‘Infest’, and the track also features vocals from In this Moment’s Maria Brink; the two vocal styles compliment each other well. 'Devil' starts off with a laidback feel which, in contrast to the electronic techno feel of the track 'Warriors', makes for a nice diverse blend on the album.

The mix of songs on this album showcases Shaddix's lyric writing skills and, at times, emotionally charged and thought-provoking content, being backed up by the hard punchy rhythm section and rip roaring guitar riffs - all the ingredients that make up the Papa Roach sound that fans have come to know and love. Although it seems like the band have gone for a completely different feel on this album, ‘F.E.A.R.’ seems to be a nice middle-ground, mixing the new with the old and creating a very nice balance of hard-hitting, anthemic crowd pleasers.
