RUINS OF EARTH
www.myspace.com/ruinsofearth
The debut offering from Ruins Of Earth comes absolutely thundering into form with a tense opening track culminating in a barrage of intense drum work rolling in. ‘Darkest Skies’ is fast paced, heavy and dirty, with some great vocal work reminiscent of the likes of Sylosis. The drum work by Thomas Brooker is absolutely phenomenal, intense and fast paced, but perfectly executed, individual and interesting most of all. The riffs in ‘The Serpent’s Curse’ are winding and captivating - you get lost in the layered madness that is created by Daniel Smith and Andrew Wilson. The opening riff in title track ‘Ashes Of The Earth’ is similar to a Lamb Of God grinding guitar masterpiece. My only disappointment really is that whilst the vocal work is good, great at points, it’s just too similar to every second vocalist in the industry at the moment, but it does work well with the musical stylings. ‘Extinction’ is another groove laden offering, thundering in and knocking you flat with the pace of it all. Definitely one to make you want to bang your head or throw your bones around the pit. Heavy and consistent, Ruins Of Earth have delivered a solid offering but sadly, nothing new to the genre.
