SAVAGE MESSIAH
www.myspace.com/savagemessiahmetal
London based thrash metal band Savage Messiah's impressive second album ‘Insurrection Rising’ oozes great potential with the immense power and general feel grabbing your attention from start to finish. Not only do they perform well but the production by Chris Tsangarides is first class and the fact that the band managed to get someone of his stature is a testament to their growing reputation. Tsangarides’ CV is second to none, having worked with some of the biggest names in rock and metal such as Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath and Malmsteem. Perhaps less commonly known is that Chris has been associated with top non-metal acts such as Japan, Depeche Mode and Tom Jones. Savage Messiah display a melodic quality not usually found in thrash bands and are heavily influenced by Megadeth at their peak (‘Rust in Peace’ and ‘Countdown to Extinction’) as well as elements of classic heavy metal and NWOBHM. Dave Silver possesses a sneering voice, which comes across like a superior version of Dave Mustaine whilst the relentless riffing is never short of excellent. The title track provides the album with a strong start and shows signs of the quality to come. The material is always good but standout tracks such as the epic sounding 'In Absence of Liberty', 'Silent Empire' and final track ‘He Who Laughs Last’ are particularly exceptional. ‘Insurrection Rising’ does tread a similar path throughout, which might be seen as a weakness, but at no point did this affect my overall enjoyment. Savage Messiah have delivered an album which is an irresistible and pure metal experience with no pretensions.
