SEROTONIN
www.myspace.com/serotonineffect
“SERATONIN” as the press sheet boldly states as its header; well there’s a good start on introducing a band you’re new to, when the person writing the press sheet can’t even spell the name of the band correctly, when they are infact “Serotonin”. I did wonder why I had problems finding their website when Googling it! And when introducing band members on their MySpace (when I eventually found it), they describe a “confident bass player”, well you’d hope so really, being a member of a band, but what an utterly bizarre statement, and if he is so “confident” it’s a shame you can’t actually pick out very much of what he’s playing in the mix, bar a few neck slides and the odd note here and there. But let’s not let these minor niggles get in the way of the music. Based in Oxfordshire in the UK, Serotonin formed in 2007, with the trio releasing two EPs since their inception and this single marking their most recent release. Describing themselves as a mix of progressive rock, alternative metal and rock, ‘Live and Forget’ leans more towards the latter two genres (with not really a hint of progressive rock in sight); a radio-friendly, emotion-filled and adeptly performed track with a relatively “big” sound for a trio, with gravelly lead and harmony vocals, token catchy sing-a-long chorus, and almost predictable classic rock/metal mirrored guitar harmonies. Not ground-breaking in the slightest, but an enjoyable enough listen if this kind of style floats your boat, with good song-structure and professional and pleasing-to-the-eye cover art.
