SIDEBURN

Sideburn hail from Switzerland and were formed in 1997 out of the remnants of heavy metal band Genocide. Consisting of vocalist Roland Pierrehumbert, guitarists Boris and Fred Gudit and the rhythm section of Lionel Blanc on drums and bassist Michel Demierre, they have toured widely over the years and supported such rock luminaries as Kiss, Def Leppard, Motorhead and Thin Lizzy. The band set their stall out from track one of this Beau Hill produced release; the stall being that they are unashamedly Brian Johnson era AC/DC aficionados. To be fair to the band, they fully realise where their influences spring from and there is even an allusion made to their Aussie inspiration in the press release. Each track, with the exception of ‘Long Beard and Boogie’ which, as the title suggests is an homage to ZZ Top and ‘Good Boy’, which substitutes the ‘Hell Bent For Leather’ lyric of Judas Priest with the not quite as rock ‘n’ roll ‘Shout it Forever’, is an almost exact copy of one AC/DC track or another. The stand out tracks are ‘One Night Stand’, ‘Chase The Rainbow’ and ‘Kiss of Death, although most of the songs will get your feet tapping and your head shaking. There is absolutely nothing original here and the best that can be said of Sideburn is that they are an AC/DC tribute band that write their own material. Having said that, as a band in a festival line up or as a support band, they sound like they would be really good fun and just the thing to get the crowd going, especially as you would probably recognise most of the songs, even if you don’t know the lyrics!
