SILAS

This Essex four piece have a rock fusion sound to their brand of metal encompassing jazz playing mixed in with almost Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains sensibilities to their song writing. There’s a sharpness to the production which allows the heaviness to shine and vocalist Dave Runham is a confident singer whose voice suits all the twists and turns of the Silas songs. I do have a feeling I’ve heard it all before in the 90s and, because of this, it all feels a bit retro but there is no denying Silas know how to write a big riff and create an even bigger song from it. On the whole ‘…To The Ground’ is incredibly professional but there are stand out points of demo mediocrity such as the solo in the breakdown of ‘Flip The Script’. I can see Silas doing very well in front of the right rock audience but it’s certainly a niche I find full of big anthemic songs with only a few rarities that have longevity. I understand what Silas are trying for and, on the whole, it mostly works but something truly memorable and unique seems to be elusive from ‘…To The Ground’. A good effort nonetheless.
