SNATCH MAGNET

Right, let's get the negatives out of the way. The artwork is shit; not just bad, but Grade A Shit. The name the band has chosen to represent them is shit. The name of the album is shit, and probably grammatically wrong. The song titles are, mostly, shit. Everything is just about shit. Right, to the positives. The opening track is pretty good. It has a strong riff, and a keen sense of melody. Actually, I've had enough of pouring praise on this; let's get back to the shit stuff. Track two is U2 (and that's really fucking shit). Track three 'Call of the Maiden' sounds like it came off a B-Sides collection from, you guessed it, Iron Maiden. That's proper shit that is. Snatch Magnet just doesn’t know how to a) write a song, and b) focus on one direction. Their press-release states that they recorded this bird-scarer in the same place as The Mars Volta. Great, what's that supposed to tell me? Do they sound like The Mars Volta? Apart from some vocal aping on 'Games', no, they shitting well don't. Apparently, the same sheet of paper tells me, they have played with current and former(!) members of such luminaries as 'Bango Tango' (must be a 'Bang Tango' covers band) and Guns 'N Roses. Who? Steven Adler? Crikey! On the back of the CD it points us to all manner of MySpace and Facebook-alike addresses and logos. But what's this, an 'iTunes' logo too. Why, if I had the CD in my hand, would I need to know I could buy a copy from 'iTunes'? So I could have two copies of it? Anyway, before it starts to sound like I'm deliberately shitting on them for no reason, I guess I should close by saying that if your 'bag' is second-rate 80s rock (and, sometimes, pop, and metal), then please, knock yourself out. If you like music however, I genuinely wouldn't bother.
