THE MISSION
themissionuk.com
The Mission have given the rock and goth world numerous hits including ‘Wasteland’, ‘Tower of Strength’ and ‘Deliverance’. To some, the pop part of the goth world; to others, soaring anthems from an age that has never been recaptured. Main man Wayne Hussey has enough musical credentials to show him as a songwriter extraordinaire and it always has to be remembered this man was a creative part of The Sisters of Mercy in the early days as well as being the guitarist for Pete Burn’s Dead or Alive. As we all know The Mission are no more with this release being the last (unless a reformation appears on the cards!). Dum Dum Bullet is a collection from B-sides and demos that were made during the time of ‘God is a Bullet’, the last Mission album proper. The thing The Mission have proved throughout their long career is when they write an album there are many songs written and recorded that don’t make it to the final release but, nonetheless, are worthy of merit. Ultimately, there are some interesting moments on ‘Dum Dum Bullet’, especially if you’re a Mission fan, but if you want to explore this English band’s back catalogue then there are far more interesting albums out there as a start point – especially the excellent compilation ‘Sum and Substance’.
