THEMSELVES
www.facebook.com/themthemselves
Themselves hail from Leicester who, judging by this release, specialise in energetic indie rock with a heavy edge. The first of the four tracks on this EP, ‘To What Extent’, is raw and raucous but with melody and hooks as well with a riff that is reminiscent to that from ‘Superconductor’ from Rush’s ‘Presto’ album. The following cut, ‘Wasted’, is equally heavy and has a bouncy feel, somewhat akin to The Hoosiers on steroids. The penultimate song, ‘1965’ adopts a more funky approach with vocal harmonies to the fore, while ‘Apply The Pressure’ rounds things off in punky, frenetic and up-tempo manner. The songs on this release are well crafted and produced and showcase the band’s attributes well, and I shall await further releases from them with interest.
