THE MURDER OF MY SWEET
www.themurderofmysweet.com
The Swedish band, The Murder of my Sweet, formed in 2007 (a respectable amount of years ago) and release their third album; another contribution to the symphonic/cinematic metal scene. What it is to expect from these releases are a lot of soundtrack influences mixed with what is common to see in well settled bands such as Nightwish and Delain. ‘Beth Out Of Hell’ starts off with what could be a superhero movie type of scenario; ‘Daredevil’ comes to mind, even when the music is not described as such, nor the theme of the album.

Laced with symphonic metal elements, the first song kicks in as a really good surprise. Balanced, well structured, heavy in tasteful doses and with no lack of creativity. Unfortunately, the "non-lack" of creativity statement felt in the first song quickly goes away when more attention is given to the vocal lines presented along the album. Angelica Rylin's vocal range might be quite interesting, but lacks complexity and the melodies created always have the same core. For me, this is a big turn-off switch. Not all are bad news vocal-wise. The backing singer/drummer/founder is one of the highlights. Daniel Flores, with his raspy and easy to connect to type of voice, is able to create very interesting feelings; however, and unfortunately, we are not able have a good grasp of its taste. It is simply not enough.

Overall, it's quite a hard album to digest. Instrumentally, it is appealing, especially when the symphonic metal influences appear (kudos to Andreas Lindahl, who seems to have quite a talent), but it soon becomes dull; there is a lot of work needed on a crucial side of this kind of record - a lead singer that's able to hold on to the sound. If you're a fan already, it surely will be great. If you're used to more a balanced greatness, you should maybe try something else, or at least have a lot of patience to digest and ignore that it could be much better.
