TRANSGRESSION
www.myspace.com/transgressionuk
As far as metalcore is concerned, Transgression has some decent tunes on this EP (their second). However, they need to practice a little, because some of the playing on here is borderline sloppy. Coupled with a production that borders on unlistenable (fluttering drums being the main offender), it makes being impressed a little harder than necessary. That aside, along with some minor musical meanderings, this is an enjoyable glimpse into the start of a promising career. I'm sure in a live setting these guys will be crushing. They just need to find a producer who can reign it all in into a dynamic, cohesive, set of tunes for a CD. Hell, I'd settle for just a cleaner sound right now. Musically, they run the gamut of the heavier metalcore acts out there (Black Dahlia Murder being an example they cite). I like the two distinct vocalists; adding a great call and response mix that Optimum Wound Profile and Carcass used to great effect. If there are faults beyond the performance, it's that the 'Intro' track really is unnecessary; it doesn't give us an indicator of what's to come. Nor does it really create an atmosphere. Such triflings though shouldn't put you off at least giving this one a punt. It has plenty of faults but, like the young puppy that pisses on the kitchen floor, it's a loveable little critter. Go on, give it a go.
