VOMITORY
www.vomitory.net
Brutal old school death metal played well (like Vomitory do on 'Carnage Euphoria') sounds damn good! Mind you, these Swedes should be good at it as they’ve been around long enough. Formed in 1989 this is their seventh full length and the formula hasn’t really ever changed - they’ve just become more honed. In a world of precise pro-tool playing, fixing and super sharp sounds in your death metal mix, with brutality at eleven and passion at zero, it is a joy to hear death metal played like this, with gusto, by great individual musicians who work well as a band and feeling every bit as brutal as the new pack. OK, this album isn’t going to win any awards for originality but, like Obituary, these guys know how to write a catchy and groove laden riff and then utilize it to make a great song. Ten in fact, and it is this that helps Vomitory raise themselves above many a peer. This ability to write a song rather than a jumble of riffs makes the listening experience as a whole for this album flow, helping to do what all good albums do - take you on a journey, and one you want to start again once it has finished.
