WHERE THE SKELETONS PLAY

Amazing. I could end the review there. Whatever I have to say beyond what we're told in the press release is only unnecessary garnish on a wholly perfect dish. Now, I've been reluctant to ever give a CD a perfect score; because once you start dishing them out nothing can be superior. But, I'm afraid, Where The Skeletons Play have me overturning that. This is a perfect CD. And, I'm not sure anything I hear in the near future will top it. This is artful rock, sometimes metal, on a scale that defies simple categorisation. The press release identifies Tool, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Pelican, Explosions in the Sky as influences, and you can tell, but it's foolish to say that they sound like any one of them. Don't get me wrong, their sound is far from unique, as is posited. Yet, the sound they do make is glorious and oppressive, Summery and epic, all in equal measure. There's a distinctive foreboding, yet calming, instrumental opener; something I'm usually against. And what follows is song writing and performance of the highest order, all the work of two men that never fails to stir an emotion, or lift your spirit. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Seriously, please buy this and support intelligent thought-provoking music.
