WHITE CLOUDS & GUNFRE

It was little under a year ago that I reviewed White Clouds & Gunfire’s first EP, ‘Zero to Hero’ and, after listening to the Peterborough based quintet, I noted that they were making up for lost time from their rocky start with lineup changes and stability issues from their initial formation. That statement is as true now as it was back then. I was honestly surprised when I was given a new album to review with having such a short period of time from their initial EP release. My first thoughts were that they would have taken ‘Zero to Hero’ and expanded it, but this is most certainty not the case. What I was handed was an album of 8 full tracks with completely new material. They have taken their punk pop sound and pressed on, taking everything that made it great and crafted a truly enjoyable album. From their initial EP, WC&GF have generated a following across the length and breadth of the UK; with their combination of energetic playing style and catchy lyrics they have created an amazing listening experience. From the very first track, ‘Bruised Not Broken’, to the last with ‘Since You Were Gone’, the vocals supplied by Eveline Verdegaal are crystal clear and continuously elevate the tracks to new heights, setting this album a cut above the rest. This isn’t to say the other members of the band are holding anything back - the sheer amount of energy and talent presented throughout the album from Rob Woods (bass), Bryon Marr (guitar), Alex Cox (guitar) and Lewis Fountain (drums) leads the listener on a rollercoaster ride of sound going from slow melodic sections to adrenaline fuelled instrumentals in a heartbeat, changing pace and flowing naturally. If you enjoy punk pop, I highly recommend giving White Clouds & Gunfire a listen and ‘For All The Non Believers’ is just the thing as it showcases everything the band has to offer.
