"Welcome to the Future". It's not though is it? No, in fact it's 1994 and ZeroPunk want to sound like Filter. They actually sound like Stabbing Westward. It actually starts off quite interesting with throbbing 80s synths and a dark gothic mood. But then the guitars and the nauseating voice kick in, and it's all a case of 'been there, don't want to go back thanks'. Don't get me wrong, this may have been passable back then, maybe even popular. However, passable sixteen years ago is just not good enough is it? In fact, I'm reminded somewhat of the ill-informed detour that Shotgun Messiah took on their 'Violent New Breed' album in the days when glam was on its arse; the wave of grunge having reminded people how stupid glam was/still is (yes, you, Steel Panther). Still, at least ZeroPunk - they're right, there is zero punk - aren't just blindly following the trend here. In an age when even Trent Reznor can't be arsed to peddle the whole industrial metal schtick, it amazes me that there are bands who think it might be a good idea (clue: it's not). What's next, a Limp Bizkit revival? Oh yeah.
