ZOLTAR SPEAKS

From the plains of Somerset comes a powerful and energetic band, Zoltar Speaks, with their debut EP ‘Treatment’. The opening track, ‘A Metaphor’, instantly attracts attention with hammering drums and a build up that promises great things. The female vocals that rides the intro to take centre stage for the rest of the track take command and demands attention; combined with impressive guitar work, solid drumming and heavy bass the song is an amazing start that leaves you wanting more. ‘How Could You Blame Me’ opens as it means to goes on, not letting up with a fast paced trip of rolling drums, resonating bass, powerful guitar and strong vocals and after the impact of ‘A Metaphor’, ‘How Could You Blame Me’ keeps the adrenaline coming. In contrast to its predecessors, ‘The Best Revenge’ starts incredibly soft, which is swiftly shattered with a torrent of guitar and drums that elevates the pace to a pulse pounding level; it just gets better and better the further the track goes on, peaking with an astounding guitar solo that escorts the track up until the end. The finale comes with ‘Treatment’ where the vocals just come into their own; powerful and emotional it is very different to the rest of the tracks where the pace takes a step back but where the speed drops and the instrumental work steps up to create a simply astounding end to an overall amazing EP. I am unsure of the origins of the their band name but I would put money on it sharing a name with the wish granting machine from Tom Hank’s ‘BIG’ and, after listening to them again and again, they have simply put me under a spell. These five are most definitely a band to keep an eye on and I look forward to seeing what heights they will reach.
