‘Made Up My Mind’ is the debut release from young British Blues guitarist, Connor Selby. It consists of eight tracks and runs for a little under forty minutes. For the guitar buffs amongst you, Connor uses a R9 Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Strat and a VOS Gibson SG. The press release accompanying the promo CD states that Connor's influences include Eric Clapton, Paul Kossoff, Peter Green, early soul music and BB King, and this is readily apparent when listening to this release.

The album begins with the title track, which is mid-tempo, has a bass heavy intro, a '60s, almost Motown feel, all wrapped up in classic Blues. The opener sets the scene for the rest of the disc, with all the tracks giving at least a nod to the 1960s in approach and vibe. Most of the songs have a slow tempo and a distinctly laid-back style with the exception of 'Help Me' and 'You Hurt Me' which are up-tempo, with a rocky edge and reminiscent of Cream, especially with the vocals which evoke Clapton so readily.

Regardless of tempo, however, each track features very fine guitar work, an example being the final track, 'Sure as the Sunrise' which, although with a slow tempo, contains perhaps the best solo of them all and brings the album to a fitting close.

Connor has played both the Ramblin' Man Fair and Dereham Blues Festival this summer and, playing such prestigious gigs, coupled with the release of this record, is sure to raise his profile and swell his fan base accordingly. This is a promising debut from a young British artist and I would certainly recommend checking him out, particularly if you're a fan of classic Blues.
